"It's hilarious when the art world talks about the "overexposure" of its "superstars" like hirst or salle, when 99% of the population has not a clue about their work. just talk to people in ohio or cairo or moscow. i mean: the coke can has so much more cultural impact than-say-a walter de maria. pity the guys who designed the former are not as talented as the latter. or pity walter does not get as much exposure as the can. this, of course, is as much the fault of the art world as anybody's, with its exclusive openings, art speak bullshit, etc. i guess the only two 20th century fine artists who had real impact on world culture would be picasso and to a lesser degree warhol. sure is, it's much easier to create something good for the enjoyment of a small group of peopl ethan to create high qualit for the masses. in my little world: its so much more difficult to design a good cover for a huge band than for a tiny one. and yet, it is impossible to create high quality work and win the admiration of practically everybody: just look at the vietnam memorial, the simpsons, the volkswagen beetle, the eiffel tower." -stefan sagmeister

So here I am, sitting in a totally empty new york city apartment ready for work with half an hour to spare. I couldn't fall asleep last night... and when I finally did, I found myself constantly waking up, gasping for air, barely breathing. I'm scared.
A really awesome young couple and their two year-old, half-german, half chinese, baby boy offered me there vacant apartment which they bought a year ago. It is next to the apartment they are currently living in and they are planning on knocking down the wall that separates the two to renovate and combine the two apartments to make it into one MASSIVE, dream apartment. As of now, the vacant one is ALL MINE! wahoo.
I moved in yesterday. The culmination of their kid that wins the title for being "The Most Hyper Baby EVER", the husband who made the morning commute sound like hell, and the wife who would talk over him to tell him NOT to scare me made me absolutely terrified for my first day of work. I've ridden then nyc subway train a million and one times.. both on and off rush hour. I have never gotten lost nor have i had any bad experiences (ok, minus that one time sophomore year of high school when i was shoved into an already packed train and had the 40 year old man standing behind me rapidly humping my art portfolio), but because of all the chaos brewing in the apartment.... i found myself not terrified of starting my internship.... but of the actual commute to and from the place itself.
RAWR.
I got to talk to Clint in my state of panic, and he made me realize how stupid i was for being scared, and calmed me down a lot, but i found myself sweating bullets, lying in bed last night, imagining the worst case scenario.
Anyway, so i'm starting my internship in an hour and 20 minutes, giving myself a full hour to get to the place. The place i'm working at is called Artisan Digital--i worked there the summer of my freshman year in college so i'm giving it a second go. The first time i worked there, i had never opened photoshop before and i had no idea what i was doing so i spent that summer resizing images, paying their bills, and doing only one actual design project. This summer however (ai yay yay), their senior designer, Pirco Wolfframm, is in Bankok and won't be coming back until September. She told me she left a stack of folders on her desk containing various projects i need to complete over the summer... which consists of two websites (one flash-based), corporate branding, swatchbook layout designing, and other fun stuff. The boss boss, the one who i know and the one that hired me, is leaving for Taiwan TOMORROW..... meaning i am my own boss. YIKES. My only form of art direction is any email i send to Pirco.... in hopes that she emails me back. AH!
Ladies and Gentlemen... let's see Sheila flop this one! =P ..... wish me luck.... bye.
